Buyers Guide to the Best Shavers and Men’s Grooming Products

The best general guidance for buying men’s grooming products – such as shavers and hair removal devices – probably appears in specialist men’s magazines and websites.

The AskMen.com portal has various reports, as well as links to other sites. Be Better Guys also contains lots of useful information. ShaveBlog is a classic site and highly recommended.

For reviews of specific products, Amazon.com is one of the best sources. Some of its best-selling products - an example is the Braun 8995 360 Complete Men's Shaver - may have as many as 200 consumer reviews, detailing actual experiences with the shaver.

Men’s Fitness magazine in January 2005 tested half-a-dozen shavers, with the Remington Titanium Microflex Ultra coming out on top.

The commercial Shavers.com website provides a “Which shaver is for me?” page, which gives recommendations based on factors like skin type and hair growth. The FAQ page of Shavers.com says that its best-selling shavers are the Braun Syncro System series of shavers and the Norelco Spectra line of shavers, followed by Grundig, Panasonic and Remington. This website also offers a page of shaving tips.

The Electric Shaver Page website provides a discussion board on shavers and also carries out regular polls on visitors’ favorite shavers. Electric Razor Rap also offers discussion boards.

The Shaver Savers online store in the UK offers a useful article, "Choosing an Electric Shaver", with a list of its best-selling models.

Expo Television carries home-made video reviews of men's grooming products.

Consumer Reports tested men's shavers for its December 2006 edition. The report is for subscribers only, but the website contains a brief "How to Choose" article.

Amazon.com provides a useful page - updated hourly - of its top-selling men's grooming products.

Quite an intense discussion of shaving products resulted from a post at Professor Glenn Reynolds’ renowned Instapundit site. Another detailed discussion is at Ask MetaFilter, and another – seeking the world’s best shaver – is at Google Answers.

An excellent article, “How to Get That Perfect Shave,” is at MSNBC. It concentrates on the classic double-edge safety razor and shaving brush, and is full of useful tips, as well as providing links to sites with more information.
