Men's Shaving - Best
Gifts for Christmas
An Amazon.com customer wrote about this best-seller: Have used this razor
since Jan.'08 and it has been performing flawlessly since then. The June '08
issue of a leading Consumer Magazine has just rated this MS2-390 a "Best
Buy", second only to the Braun 360 at $170....After the initial 2 or 3
charge/discharge cycles to improve battery memory, it provides me with over
20 three minute shaves every morning, which more than lives up to the
advertised 60 minute run time....This Remington should provide many years of
use as did my previous one. Even after the batteries are fully depleted,
this razor will still work via the plug-in cord.

Although a bit steep in price, it performs
as advertised. I have owned a 7000 series Braun and was getting fed up with
the amount of times it took going over my chin, neck and area below the ear
on the jawbone. This razor did an excellent job in a minimal amount of time
with a close shave I haven't experienced in years. I highly recommend this
shaver if you can handle the price.

Philips Norelco is one
of the biggest and best producers of electric razors in the grooming game
and the Arcitec is their flagship. It uses three independent rotary heads
that flex around your face no matter how hideous and lumpy it may be....Good
looks only get a razor so far, but this thing is as effective as it is
pretty. The stainless steel blades do an awesome job of smoothing up your
face and it even tackles those ropey, painful neck hairs like a champ....How
does it stack up against other razors? ...The difference is noticeable no
matter how much shaving you do, but guys with necks like patches of velcro
will be voting for this thing for president.

I recently purchased the Braun Free
Control 1775 electric shaver and I can honestly say that it shaves as close
as my old reliable Gillette Sensor razor. I've tried other Braun models
costing up to 5 times the price of the Free Control and none of them shaves
as close. I think the secret is that is uses just one large cutting block
which is heavier and closer cutting than those 2 headed models. Also, the
floating foil head is MUCH THINNER than the more expensive Braun models. It
floats up and down on your face, and the foil itself is very flexible so it
compresses onto the cutter and you barely have to press the shaver to your
face....Don't waste your money on anything more expensive, they don't get
any closer than this!!!

Here is an enthusiastic Amazon.com review: Simply put, it has switched me back to
electric after 6 years of using blades. The new rotors have three rows of
blades, and an innovative mix of slots and holes for stubble, making-use of
dead space that was Norelco's weakness since their beginning. The XL has the
inward tilt mechanism introduced with the Quadra. And it has the late 80's
lift-and-cut technology, which doesn't work exactly as advertised, but it
does shave flat areas of the face as close as a blade (the cheek and upper
lip areas do get the closest cut)....The XL gives me the closest electric
shave I've ever had. And I can use it daily for a consistent smooth look
without irritation. Add the recent development of products like Anthony for
Men's alcohol-based pre-shave solution, and electric shaving suddenly has
advantages worth making the switch. I liked the XL so much, I got the 9160XL
for home, and the less-expensive 8140XL for my office.

I bought this as my travel shaver after
arriving at my destination and discovering that my rechargeable electric
shaver had discharged in my shaving kit. This does an amazing job for a
shaver with a single foil. I am prone to razor burn, but have not gotten one
from this razor. Does not shave quite as close as my regular shaver, but
close enough. Plus, I can now buy extra batteries on the road if I need
them. The trimmer does a good job too. It's also not as loud as I feared.
Overall a good buy!

I've owned both Norelco and Braun shavers, but the best rotary shaver I've seen is the Norelco Speed XL 8140XL ($90). Rotary shavers are great at handling longer hairs and are more likely to be chosen over foil shavers by men who shave less often. Rotary electric shavers don't shave as close as foil shavers, like those from Braun. The triple-blade rotary disc technology has improved on a closer shave and the 2-year warranty and 60 day money back trial period are big pluses. You can even clean the Speed XL with water.
