Philips Norelco NT9110 Nose and Ear Trimmer
Philips Norelco have just placed on the market a nose and ear trimmer, and I recently received one for review. Here are some impressions:

At my age (in my 50s) something to trim ear and nose hair is a useful accessory. I used to use a small pair of scissors, or rely on my wife (a hairdresser) when she cut my hair.

But a few years ago I bought a cheap Carrera-brand model from my local Aldi supermarket, and have been happily using that. It's just a long tube-like affair, with a pointy top and a tiny spinning blade. Stick it up your nose - it's like inserting a tube of toothpaste into your nose - and it tickles like heck, but does the job, and it also trims ear hair. It's a pretty low-tech affair, and I didn't really see how it could be much improved upon.

But I do think the Philips Norelco unit is (a little) better. For a start, it is attractive, with a streamlined body and a gracefully curving trimming head.

The actual trimming is done from the side of the trimmer, based on something the company calls "Tube Shave" technology, allowing greater reach and greater control. It still tickles, but certainly it does the job well. It is easy to hold and easy to manoeuvre. An attachment can be used for eyebrow trimming. Just a single AA battery is needed.

According to the company:

Tube Shave is a next-generation shaving technology that delivers fast, one stroke efficiency for significantly better hair catching than foil shaving. You also get significantly closer results than current precision trimmers. Tube Shave technology shaves at skin level. The shaver can be applied to every angle of the skin without losing shaving effectiveness.

The NT9110 is water-resistant for easy clean-up directly under the faucet. It can also be used in or out of the shower. The shaver comes with two eyebrow trimming and shaping attachment combs to trim and style the eyebrows. A protective cap keeps the NT9110's trimming head clean while not in use.

Trimming nose and ear hair is not something that occupies much of my time or my thinking. I was happy with my previous unit, which did the job adeuqately, and I'm happy with this new model, which seems to do it a little better.
