Panasonic ES8077S Vortex Linear Pivot Shaver

Panasonic markets a large line of shavers at many price points, with the Vortex Linear Pivot range of shavers at the top. Despite its popularity, I have not been able to find independent reviews online.

However, numerous consumer reviews are available at commercial sites such as Amazon.com. Here is one:

Wow what a difference from my Norelco. The shave I get from my new Panasonic is awesome. It would take my Norelco a lot longer to get something close to what I get with the Panasonic. This razor does at times get so close that it cuts my skin. This is a bit irritating. I think it has cut my chin in the same spot ever since I got the razor. I haven't used the cleaning/charge unit yet so I can't comment on that. All a round the razor is great. I love it, and I will never go back to a rotary.

And another:

I have an insanely tough beard and ridiculously sensitive skin. Within 2 weeks this thing is cutting me as close as a mach 3 going against the grain. Can't feel a whisker on my face. Sure the neck is tough. They'll probably never make an electric that can tackle the neck, but this thing actually does an acceptable job. The best part is you still get the "wet shave" feeling cause you can use it wet. I would definitely consider getting the next model down, without the cleaning station. Since you can rinse it under water, I can get the shaver just as clean as the stand can, and a lot faster.

Amazon.com used to feature its own very useful "Shaver Shopping Made Easy" page, and it listed three “gold medal” shavers, including one of the Panasonic Vortex Linear Pivot shavers. About the gold medalists, it said:

These golden boys were selected as The Cream Of The Crop, Best of the Best, "It" Crowd contenders for most-requested and most-loved. Why? Because they feature the biggest and best technological advancements in shaving that make it easier (and faster) to get a close, clean, comfortable shave. Each shaver boasts features that go above and beyond traditional shaving technology, including self-cleaning systems, LCD displays, "smart foil" technology, oscillating heads, or systems that automatically recharge your shaver.

The Panasonic corporate website contains more detail on the Vortex Linear Pivot shaver.
