Cuisinart Griddlers

Cuisinart's website lists the GG-2 Grill and Griddle, the GR-4 Griddler (pictured) and the CR-8 Cuisinart Raclette. In addition, at Amazon.com you can find the GR-1 Griddler Panini and Sandwich Press.

It is not easy to find online reviews of griddlers. Here's one for the GR-4 Griddler from the Random Opinion blog:

I absolutely love this griddle. It’s so much more than just a griddle. Actually, I am not all that fond of pancakes but do love a good Panini sandwich and just about anything else I can stick on a grill. I create my own Panini sandwiches and rather than spend $900 on an institutional type sandwich press (I had considered it!), this baby does all that and more.

Generally, the Cuisinart GR-4 Griddler carries a price tag of nearly $200.00. Ouch! But do not fret, you can find it here and there for much less. I gave $139.00 for it. Well worth every penny too.

The Plate of the Day Food Blog wrote:

We used to have a George Foreman Grill which was great but then we upgraded to the beautiful stainless steel Cusinart Griddler. This is an impressive grill that does much more than the good ol’ George Foreman Grill.

The Cuisinart Griddler has removeable plates so you can have optional grill marks. You can also press Panini sandwiches or fry eggs, pancakes, etc.

About.com included the GR-4 in its list of "Top 10 Indoor Grills," and said:

This is a contact grill that gives you the ability to grill anything from panini sandwiches to steaks while cooking on both sides. The reversible cooking surfaces let you get good grill marks for your steak, but also let you cook pancakes. This is a very versatile grill. You also get a wide range of temperature control and the ability to set different temperatures on each side of the grill.

A review at Charlie Suisman's Manhattan User's Guide commented:

Someone who moved to the city recently asked us 'what are the three things every New Yorker should have?' There are plenty of snarky replies to that...but we went the more-or-less earnest route: 1) boundless curiosity 2) a vice – or at least a passion – to indulge and 3) excellent peripheral vision.

But we could have added a Cuisinart Griddler to the list. Perfect for small kitchens (it's roughly 13" wide, 9" deep, and 7" high), this appliance not only makes terrific panini, but works perfectly for steak, fish, burgers (there are drip cups to collect grease), veggies, eggs, and toast. You can change from grill to griddle and you can open the top all the way to give you two grills. It heats quickly and evenly (there are temperature controls), everything's non-stick, and the parts are dishwasher safe. Most important, food tastes great from it. When it was first introduced, Cuisinart had it priced at $200, but it's generally available now for $129...

A slim profile, practical, good-looking, quick – it's everything a New Yorker could want.
