Cuisinart Grind and Brew

"Grind and Brew" is the name Cuisinart gives to its three top-end coffee makers, the 10-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker, the 12-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker and the Thermal 10-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker (picture).

The machines do not receive the best of reviews at the demanding Coffee Geek website. The average score in early April 2006 was 5.5 (out of 10) from 38 reviews. (By contrast, the Cuisinart Brew Central machine is very highly rated.)

Here's an excerpt from a favorable review:

I started researching grind and brew coffee machines. There were some nasty reviews on the Cuisinart, but they all seemed to center on the cleaning of the "5" parts. My experience in coffee centers on the quality of the beans rather than the machinery so I decided to give it a try.

I like strong coffee but not the type that puts hair on your chest....On day one I tried a good French Roast and filled the grinder with 2 more than the recommended one scoop per cup of beans and it was too strong. Going back to the recommended amount did the trick. Over the past month I have tried several quality blends and like the machine more and more each time I grind and brew.

And from an unfavorable review:

No matter how much coffee you use, it tastes like weak restaurant coffee. You can see right through it to the bottom of the cup. No way to adjust the grind, either: "coarse" is where it's at. In the end we gave this machine to my sister, who loves good gadgets but isn't supposed to drink coffee anyway. Weak coffee's ok with her.

A review at the Coffee Bean Queen website said:

Cuisinart makes some great small home appliances full of style and gumption. While I have the stainless steel, thermal option it does cost twice the price of these plastic models. If you drink coffee everyday, I would buy the Cuisinart Thermal Grind & Brew option. I highly recommend using a thermal carafe instead of the glass carafe and warming plate. Thermal keeps your coffee warm without baking it.

Otherwise, you'll find hundreds and hundreds of reviews all over the internet at sales sites such as Amazon.com.
